Time for another short and sweet update on our mission to bring Comic Chameleon to Android!

We’ve found an Android developer

In case you missed it, we’ve found an Android developer that we trust - a webcomics fan and an ace coder - who will be working with us to create a version of Comic Chameleon that will run on all your Android devices, from the ground up!

Next step: Kickstarter

Our next step is to run a Kickstarter campaign to help raise the funds to pay him for his glorious work!  We’ve recently begun putting this together, so hopefully we’ll have that up within the next 1-2 months.  We’re working on rewards that will make it worthwhile for you to back the project, including great deals on premium ad-free subscriptions, and even early access to the beta!

iOS users, you guys pay attention too

The premium ad-free subscription deals that will be available to the Kickstarter backers will also apply to the existing iOS app when we launch subscriptions, so you’ll want to back it too.  Also, if we hit our base goal, our stretch goals will include new features and goodies that will benefit both iOS and Android users alike!

Don’t miss any news on this

1) Bookmark the following URL!

Oh, and one more thing

Here’s a really (really) early of the Android version running on a Moto G.  Yeah, this is happening — with your help!

As promised, here’s a quick update on what’s going on in our mission to bring Comic Chameleon, the ultimate webcomics app, to Android!

We’ve explored a whole lot of options, from hiring developers, to training ourselves to code for Android, to just hanging it all up and getting into the Flappy Bird clone business.  In the end, what it comes down to is this absolute shocker: any (realistic) plan is going to cost mooooney.

So right now we’re hoping to run a Kickstarter in the next few months to help us raise the funds to make our Android version happen.  Hopefully with your help, we’ll be able to collect whatever it takes to pay a real ace developer to bring our webcomic party to Android devices everywhere.

We’re throwing a little a bit of a wrinkle in there, though - in an effort to get something into your hands as quickly as possible, we’ve also been exploring building an HTML 5 app, which is basically using mobile website techniques to put together an app more easily than building one natively.  HTML 5 apps tend not to be as slick as native apps, but the upsides are big: it’s faster and cheaper to develop, and it’d even work (presumably) with other platforms like Windows Phone and Blackberry (!).

An HTML 5 app still costs money to develop, so we’re thinking our primary Kickstarter goal would be relatively low, and would cover that, and then one of our stretch goals would be for the proper native Android app.  So hopefully if the native version is important to you, you’ll help us reach that level!  Rewards would include (if technically possible) getting premium subscriptions to the app for an ad-free experience.

So there you have it!  Follow us on here on Tumblr, on Twitter, or join our e-mail list for updates!  In the meantime, we’ll be see how much progress we can make on the HTML 5 app.

Thanks for your interest as always!  We can’t wait ‘til we’re finally able to bring the most awesome mobile webcomic reading experience to
